Your phone can work like a regular phone. For example, you can make an outgoing call or answer an incoming call through the phone.
Make a call
Your phone can have one or multiple lines as your administrator configures. You have different ways to make a call. For example, you can use your phone just like any other regular phone, use your speakerphone or headset for hands-free calling, or press a button to use a feature available on the phone.
Single line
Choose one of the following methods to make a call. On the home screen, enter a phone number using the keypad and start the call: on the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, press Call; on the 9871 and 8875, tap the call button. You can also enter a number and pick up the handset; enter a number and press Speakerphone (people around you might hear your call too); or plug in a headset, press Headset, and enter a number on the keypad. To call a saved contact, select Call, type a contact name or phone number in the search bar to find the contact from the Favorites or Directories tab, and press Call. You can also select a call from the Recents tab, or select Contacts, search a contact name, and select the contact.
(Optional) If you want to make a new call to another person during the current active call, select New call. This puts the current active call on hold automatically.
(Optional) To return to the home screen during an active call: on the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, select More (...) then Home; on the 9871 and 8875, tap the Home button.
Select End call when you finish the call.
Multiple lines
You can use a particular line to make calls. The extension that displays on the top is your primary line. If you don't select an extension before you dial a number, then the primary line is used by default.
Select a line on your phone. On the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, press a line key to use for the call, or press Call and then press a line key or the Up button of the Navigation Cluster to choose a line from the Lines list. On the 9871 and 8875, tap Call on your home screen and select the line you want from the Lines list, or select a line directly from the home screen. If you pick up the handset, press Speakerphone, or press Headset, the primary line is used. If you press a line key first, you can't switch a line in the New Call screen.
Enter a number and pick up the handset; or enter a number and press Speakerphone (people around you might hear your call too); or plug in a headset, press Headset, and enter a number on the keypad. You can also type a contact name or phone number in the search bar to find a contact from the Favorites or Directories tab and select Call, or select a call from the Recents tab.
Make an emergency call
Use your phone to make an emergency call, similar to any other call. When you dial the emergency number, your emergency services get your phone number and location so that they can assist you. If your call disconnects, the emergency services can call you back.
Before you begin: Your phone must be set up to obtain your physical location. Emergency services personnel need your location to find you when you make an emergency call.
Enter the emergency number and make the call. On the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, press Call. On the 9871 and 8875, tap the call button.
Answer a call
Single incoming call
You can answer an incoming call with the phone handset, the phone speaker, or the connected headset. Your phone may automatically answer an incoming call according to your administrator's configuration.
When prompted with an incoming call, do one of these actions to answer it: select Answer; lift the phone handset to answer with the handset; press Speakerphone to answer with the phone speaker (people around you might hear your call too); or press Headset to answer with the connected headset.
(Optional) To adjust the ringtone or volume of the call, press Volume.
Single line with multiple incoming calls
When your line receives multiple calls at the same time, the calls list displays and shows the status for each call. You can choose to answer one of the incoming calls from the calls list. When your line receives incoming calls, the LED lights are flashing amber.
Highlight an incoming call from the calls list. On the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, use the Navigation Cluster button to select an incoming call that you want to answer. On the 9871 and 8875, skip this step since you can directly tap the soft button on the incoming call.
Do one of these actions: select Answer to answer with the pre-specified audio path; lift the phone handset; press Headset to answer with the connected headset (if more than one headset is connected, the last connected one is used); or press Speakerphone to answer with the phone speaker (people around you might hear your call too). On the 9871 or 8875, if you lift the handset or press the Headset or Speakerphone key, the oldest incoming call is answered even though it has been ignored. If an active call is ongoing, you can't directly answer an incoming call by lifting the handset or by pressing the Headset or Speakerphone key.
(Optional) If you want to make a new call to another person during the current active call, select New call. This puts the current active call on hold automatically.
(Optional) To return to the home screen during an active call: on the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, select More (...) then Home (press the line key to return to the calls list); on the 9871 and 8875, tap the Home button (tap the calls bar to return to the calls list).
Select End call when you finish the call.
Multiple lines with multiple incoming calls
On a phone with multiple lines, when your phone receives multiple incoming calls at the same time, you can view the calls list (All calls (n)) that includes all current calls from all your phone lines, where n represents the total number of the current calls. The list can include active calls, incoming calls, and held calls, sorted in chronological order from oldest to newest, and the calls can also be grouped by each line according to your phone setting. When your phone receives incoming calls, the LED lights are flashing amber.
Highlight an incoming call from the calls list. On the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, use the Navigation Cluster button to highlight the call, or press the line key (the first press highlights the oldest incoming call; pressing repeatedly loops through the list or grouped calls). On the 9871 and 8875, skip this step since you can directly tap the soft button on the incoming call. According to your administrator's configuration, each line can have a maximum of 10 calls at the same time.
(Optional) To sort the calls in chronological order or group them by line: on the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, select More (...) then Group on to group by line, or Group off for chronological order (press the line key to highlight the oldest incoming call). On the 9871 and 8875, toggle on Sort by line.
Do one of these actions: select Answer to answer with the pre-specified audio path (if you are on an active call, the button is Hold & Answer, which holds the current call and answers the incoming one); lift the phone handset; press Headset (if more than one headset is connected, the last connected one is used); or press Speakerphone (people around you might hear your call too).
To make a call when your line receives multiple incoming calls, return to the home screen first, then make the call.
(Optional) To return to the home screen during an active call: on the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, select More (...) then Home (press a line key to return to the calls list); on the 9871 and 8875, tap the Home button (tap your line or the calls bar to return to the calls list).
Select End call when you finish the call.
Decline a call
When prompted with an incoming call, you can decline it by sending the ringing call to your voicemail system (if configured). If your administrator doesn't set up your voicemail system, the call is rejected and the caller hears a busy tone.
Single incoming call
When prompted with an incoming call, select Decline.
Multiple incoming calls
When your line receives multiple calls at the same time, the calls list displays the status for each call. When your line receives incoming calls, the LED lights are flashing amber.
Do one of the following actions. On the 9811, 9841, 9851, and 9861, select a line, select an incoming call from the calls list using the navigation button, and press Decline. On the 9871 and 8875, tap the calls bar at the bottom of the screen to open the calls list and tap Decline for the incoming call you want to decline; or tap the line that has an incoming call to open the calls list and tap Decline; or, on the in-call screen, tap the calls bar to open the calls list and tap Decline.
